What's in a Name?

Cordelia
One of the most common questions we get asked is how we chose the name Cordelia and whether it is a family name. A select few have been able to identify the true origin of her name: Shakespearean play King Lear, in which Cordelia is the good daughter, who refuses to try to outdo her sisters' proclamations of love for their father in order to secure a larger inheritance. While in the play, Cordelia meets an unfortunate end (it is one of the tragedies), the character of Cordelia remains honest, loyal, and true.

Lourdes
We also get asked about her middle name. Rest assured, our choice had absolutely nothing to do with Madonna Ritchie's firstborn. Her name comes from Our Lady of Lourdes, the name for the Virgin Mary when she appeared to a French peasant girl in Lourdes, France in the 1850s. Our Lady of Lourdes is the name of the church that Dominic attended throughout his childhood, and it was also where we were married.
